Schubert sonata - B major

For some reason I'm having trouble tracking down any recordings of Schubert's piano sonata in B major, which supposedly has an opus number of 147. Can someone please recommend one or more good and available recordings of this piece?

Unfortunately I don't have a D. number for this work. (And just for an abundance of clarity, I'm not talking about the great Bb major sonata D. 960.)

I' ve only heard Andras Schiff (Decca 440 307-2) and he's great. D 575 by the way.

There's also an interesting performance by Sviatoslav Richter of D. 575 recorded live in Tokyo in 1979 on Regis. It's coupled with the seldom-heard fragmentary Sonata in f (D. 625) and three of the Moments Musicaux. Richter is always worth hearing in Schubert, but you should be warned that his tempi here are eccentrically slow (and almost catatonic in the final Moment). This can be had cheaply from Berkshire Record Outlet, last I looked.

I have this recording on Olympia OCD 286, long gone from BRO but perhaps available elsewhere if you can't find the Regis.

Richter plays a similar program on a BBC Legends disc, recorded in London in 1979, coupling D.575, D.625, and D.664 with Moment Musicaux D.780 No. 1. This is one of the first and most valuable in this BBC series.

After posting this, I re-listened to this CD and found myself really enjoying it. Actually, only the tempo for the last Moment Musical seems unusually slow (e.g. Richter 11:48 vs. Schnabel 6:28!). The tempi for the movements of the sonatas are appropriate, and the 3rd Moment 'Air Russe' actually is a bit faster than most.

I think there is a bigger problem......that Schiff does NOT play beautifully and is a much overated pianist.

He played almost all of Schubert's piano works in NYC a number of years ago, and many were broadcast and I found the playing shallow, far from elegant technically and just not impressive in any way....

I grew up with Wuhrer's b major recording....don't remember his playing, too many years ago....

To the man's credit, I'll say that his Schubert is by far the least successful of anything I've heard from Schiff.

The only Schiff that has truly left me cold was his Bach... anything else is good to excellent IMO. Very nice Janacek and Schumann.

That's about the only Schiff that *doesn't* leave me cold (aside from his WTC, which does).
