Is that Kontarsky one of the pianist twins?

There are three Kontarskys... so I'd expect it to be their conductor brother Bernhard.

Wouldn't this be an extended play (ie 7 inch 45 rpm) item, not 78?

I have seen a reference in connection with a 1950s BBC TV demo broadcast (used in intervals and the like) that the background music included several items by Leighton Lucas and his orchestra. One accompanying film of the building of the Kirk O'Shotts transmitter is listed as 'Parts of scherzo, Bruckner 9th Symphony, Leighton Lucas Orchestra, EMI EPX 27'.

Could this be another (or the correct) version? Either way they look like EP numbers, although maybe transfers from original 78(s).

Yes, it is Bernhard Kontarsky who presently resides in Stuttgart. He won't send me a copy since he feels an amateur performance does not belong in the discography. The problem is that it is already listed as are many other amateur performances. I just need the timings...

I've tried contacting serveral people with the Honolulu Symphony about this and have gotten no reply, even from the person most likely to know about the whereabouts of the tapes. Very frustrating.

This appears to be a semi-private CDR for a small group of Asahina devotees in Japan. The Honolulu S.O. doesn't acknowledge it because they don't want to know about it. It is clearly not an authorized release.

I assumed it was a pirate, but no one seems to know who has the tapes from the days the orchestra used to broadcast. When I e-mailed them, i tried suggesting trying to get union permission to officially release the 4th & 5th given the popularity of Asahina in Japan. Given the poor financial shape of the orchestra, it might bring in some money or at least could be used as a calling card to get the tourists to come out to
