In my experience, this analogy wouldn't hold true, that is to say that the RX's are in a class with the Shigeru Kawai, whereas the Yamaha S's(and I myself own an S4)are rather distinct from the C series. They are made in the same factory section(in the Yamaha factory)as the CIII(the concert grands). And they seem to have a greater depth or roundness to the tone, though the action feels about the same as the C series.

I was impressed, however, with the Shigeru model when I played one on display at this summer's PTG convention. And though it's been several years since I played an RXA model Kawai, I was equally impressed with it.

Mark, how would you compare your S4 to a Schimmel. I am seriously considering the seven foot Schimmel but have yet to expierence a S type Yamaha. It seems they are not a model that is typically stocked.

Thanks.

The dealer that I work for as a tech(where I also happened to purchase the S4)also carries the Schimmel. I would consider it a 'decent' piano but for my money not on a par with the S4. If it had been I would have bought it instead. But of course it ultimately comes down to personal preferences in which case you may personally like the Schimmel more. If I'm not mistaken the prices may be pretty comparable so that's yet another factor in the equation.
