I've been listening to a Russian Disc that just came in from Daedalus. Three of the Forgotten Melodies Op. 38 including the Sonata reminiscenza, several Skazki, the Sonata-skazka Op. 25/1, Sonata-triad, Op. 11, one of the Op. 31 Morceaux. Svetlanov makes everything work, and the recorded sound is very good. If you don't have this already, Daedalus probably still has some.

Oops. That's just the D minor part of Op. 11.

Thanks for the alert. I was wonderin' about this myself. When were these recordings made?

Did you simultaneously pick up the Igor Nikonovich recordings, by chance?

BTW, as long as recommendations are being made, let me say that for the last several months I've been riveted by Hakon Austbo's Kreisleriana; part of a Vanguard disc at Berkshire that also includes a very strong Schumann Fantasy. From what Austbo I'd previously heard, good though it was, I'd never have guessed he was capable of this.

The Virgin Megastore in Hollywood had a few in the remainder bin last time I was there.

I have the Svetlanov Medtner disk - as I remember, the piano is badly out-of-tune. I also found the playing a bit heavy-handed. There are 2 other Russian Disks of Svetlanov as accompanist in Medtner's 3 Violin Sonatas - his playing is phenominal in these.

I have a Melodiya disk which has a Sonata-Elegy, Op. 11 No. 2, Sonata-Reminiscenza and Graceful Dance from the Forgotten Melodies (all Svetlanov) and then Svetlanov conducting Abram Shatskes in the Second Concerto, which after a long personal respite now sounds like a painfully slow performance.
