MUSICWEB Special reduced price book offer

The Life and Music of Sir Malcolm Arnold by Paul Jackson £45 [UK and EU only]or $80 world-wide postage included http://www.musicweb.uk.net/classrev/2003/Feb03/ Arnoldbook1.htm

A review will follow - delayed because I could not put the book down in order to send it to the reviewer! That persuaded me to open a trading agreement for the book.

I hope my downtown San Francisco lbrary purchases this book as 80.00 is a bit steep for me. I _love_ Arnold's music and hope (probably never will) to see it in paper later on. For a 277 pp book 80.00 is a lot. I'd pay 80.00 for Modnhauer's book on Webern if I could find it, but its out of print and costs a great deal more 'used.' That was a big book. I'm not saying that the number of pages doth a good book make, because I've bought shorter books, limited editions of average 350 pp books for around 40.00. Anyway, I really hope I get to read it, somehow. Know I'm not trying to be critical, but I wonder how and what makes some books so costly.

It is the small expected sale so a low run has to recoup the cost. It is not out of line with other hardback music books. The text is detailed and full of revelations so I thought my copy worth the purchase. http://www.musicweb.uk.net/classrev/2003/Feb03/ Arnoldbook1.htm Regards Len Mullenger

Thanks for clarifying and explaining about the cost. I hope there are a few copies available by the time I can buy the book in a couple months.
