Hello,

I ve just begun learning piano, it 's been 1 month now and as i am 25 years I was wondering if it was not too late for learning and if I could hope to play Chopin one day.

As i work, i can only study it about 30 mn per day, is it enough to progress ?

My teacher makes me learn the right hand of the song and then the left and then togethers

And i have to pratice Hanon exercises to make my hands nimble, she said

Do you think it is a good way to learn piano ?

Regards

Luigi

The good news: you can hope. The bad news: it will be difficult, not impossible, but difficult.

No.

O.K.

You are not ready for HANON. There is a 'simplified' version of HANON by Thompson. For kindergarten kids (lambs and cows). Not for you. But there is an american book 'A dozen a day' of simple exercises for the first months.

Did you asked your teacher those questions ? And she said ?

Please post back if you wish,

Ciao

I'm 35 and I started 2.5 years ago. I'm learning Chopin's Prelude in Bb Major this month. It's been a lot of fun.

Your fist year maybe, but the farther along you get the slower your progress will be with a fixed amount of practice time. Still, it will be worth your time even if you only have 30 minutes.

That is typical. I still do it from time to time. It's not a bad way to learn. There are many ways to learn a song.

Yea, I've learned the first 20. Now I play through them 1X/month just to keep them workable. Here's what I have learned about playing the piano:

1. Play slowly, very slowly. Speed will come only after you can play them in a relaxed way. Then practice the song slowly for every time you've practiced playing it quickly.

2. Avoid excess tension in the hands, yea, even in your whole body.

3. If you feel pain stop. Figure out why you feel pain and avoid it in the future. You must learn to pay close attention to all your muscles.

I'm not a teacher, but I would seek ways to practice sight reading too. Read this news group for more information on how to practice that.

Then you would better not do them for if you do something wrong, you do it a zillion times.

Well, i know i could never play ' la Valse Brillante' but some 'Nocturnes' or ' Preludes' seem accessible after 3 or 4 years

, the think is, i ve got my job, and my family therefore i can't do 'only' piano when i m back home.

Anyway I ll try to deal for 45 mn

She said, if i work regularly, and if i use the few time i have for only practice ( not playing some song i already know), i could reach a good level and enjoy myself with a large panel of sheets.

As you have certainly understood, the goal isn't playing a concerto, but playing nice little piece of music of Jazz or classic.

Thx for your answer

Bye

This is what my teacher says but i wanted an another opinion .

According to you, after how many years i would need to be confident enough for playing some sheets by myself ?

Thx for the advice, i will do so

I can feel that my left hand can't follow the right one, and the Hanon execercices seem to be the only way to make it less weak.

As i said in a previous post, i will try a deal for 45 mn :0)

Thanks you very much for yours advice Bye
