While at Tower today, the buyer told me that Universal has raised the prices on the full price line of DG, Philips, & London from $15.99 to $18.99 on single discs! However, prices of multiple disc sets have gone down.

Anyone know if the price increases are nation wide or just at Tower?

Actually, it wasn't so much that the price was increased as it was a price decrease that expired. You may recall that major labels were all at $17.99 or thereabout a little over a year ago. Univendigram offered Tower a special deal including 360-day invoicing in exchange for various minimum orders and (as I understand it) store placement, etc. That deal has now expired, and so prices are going back up (plus $1). The other major labels will follow Universal (if they haven't already)

When business is down, and sales are bad, what else do you do? Doesn't the electric company reward us for using more of their product during the summer by charging us more?

I've never taken a class in econamics, but it seems to me, that sales in CDs went down as they raised prices on new releases. So if less people are buying at $19 (retail) a CD than were at $17, doesn't it make sense to go back down to $17?

Here in California, we had it stuck to it by Exxon executives (yeah, those guys again) who bilked the state's power suppliers by an endless shell game. And now there are kooks blaming the governor for this crap.

Not that I bought any, but I was under the impression that Tower was selling full-priced Universal classical discs for $15.99 for the past couple of years. I was at the lower Broadway store today and there were $18.99 stickers covering the $15.99 ones.

Based on my experiences with a large number of them before I retired, the only thing they teach them is arrogance, but only after they have removed all traces of common sense from them. Allen Tyler

The Detroit water system is raising water rates for their suburban customers 25% as of July 1. Tower is just trying to gouge while the gouging is good.
