He's a jazz pianist who has done a few classical 'crossover' projects. He did a very neat Mahler Jazz/Klezmer thing a few years ago. There was also a very interesting idea of playing Wagner pieces with (of all things) one of those salon orchestras in the caffes on Piazza San Marco. The CD is called Wagner e Venezia. That one unfortunately doesn't really bear repeated listenings for me.

He almost completely ruins what appears to be an engaging performance by La Gaia Scienza of Schumann's piano quartet: not content to provide his own music on the disc in question, which doesn't bother me, Caine has his music overlap with the Schumann, not merely interspersed between the movements of the quartet (which is annoying enough) but at times intruding into them (which is maddening because it can't be fixed by extracting the Schumann and burning it intact onto a CDR - I doubt there's an editing program that could solve the problem, but maybe I'm wrong).

In honor of his dedication to presenting music recordings in various countries, I have awarded him the middle name 'Nation.'
