Hi folks

Can anyone say which version of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite Eduard van Beinum used in the 8-LP Philips collection (6768 023) - was it the 1919 version? The box does not indicate which version, nor does Bob Benson in his excellent van Beinum discography at http://classicalcdreview.com/evb.htmland.

I just finished remastering this performance to CD (along with the other four works not available from Philips Dutch Masters or Pierre Paquin), and it would be nice to have it documented properly.

Hi Russ,

I am almost certain it's 1919, but I will make sure when I get back to CA (I am in NYC this weekend to catch the Prokofiev 6th with the CPO I'll get back late Monday or so.

Hi again Russ,

I've just transferred it to CD also (coupled with his Scheherazade); great mono sound. It is indeed the 1919 version.

Many thanks, Ramon. I suspected it was 1919 - it usually is.

I bet the Prokofiev 6 was great - I'll have to be sure to fire up some Prokofiev on March 5 - the 50th anniversary of his (all too early) death.

And of somebody else's (all too late) death.
