This post is addressed to the admins of this forum.

Is there a good reason why a new message doesn't show up immediately? I know other forums where you can see a new post right after having sent it away. IMO 3 to 9 hours until a new message shows up is too long: 1) It may be inefficient because at a lively forum like this chances are that several people post similar comments twice or more without knowing it - most of them could have done something else in the meantime to get the community further on. 2) Those who need an advice have to wait at least 6 to 18 hours until they get the first comment (who ever had an urgent problem knows what this can mean). 3) Threads may get more branched than necessary making it more difficult for readers to follow.

Kind regards

My posts usually show up right away. Perhaps your particular news server is having trouble.

Sorry for blaming the wrong one(s). So far I come in via http over http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8& group=rec.music.ma... not via a dedicated news server. ( tz, tz, these newbies )

It looked like this forum was mangaged by google, so I expected that postings are routed immediately. Does anybody know who runs it or can recommend a fast news server?

There are none.

Your news server is getting the messages from this group from I-don't-know where? Go to http://news.cis.dfn.de/en/register.html and try their server.

Radu uses that server and seems to have no problems.

As you hit the 'post this message' from Google you get the 'good' reason. They explain to you that the message will appear in Google with a delay because the need to archive it and to be able to show it (from search - that's how Google is 'built'. On the other hand, the message posted on Google can be immediately be retrieved by other servers and, depending on their refresh rate, it can appear in a few moments. So those who use other servers see you message and can reply. You will see the message and the replies after many hours.

When you post to any newsgroup from Google, it tells you quite explicitly that you will have to wait for this length of time for your post to appear.

Use a regular news-reader like Outlook Express for closer to real-time

I use Earthlink, never had a problem. But I don't know if you can reach them if they are not your ISP.

Thanks a lot for all the comments. Now it is clear to me how the Usenet really works and how you may get there. I'll have a thorough look at all the hints and you'll surely 'read me again'.

Kind regards
