Walter Giesekings 1949 Hammerklavier on Dante

Any comments on the performance and on the trasnfer?

Played on a baby grand after a heavy day of teaching, with other works. Not really great, sound is dull. Never did sound wonderful on any CD-LP-etc. . . Usually Gieseking is heard at his best on radio and live recordings, as most post-War discs were under duress and under Walter Legge (awful producer, Gieseking disliked his methods). Yet in this case, it doesn;t come off as it might have. Allan Evans

His missed notes (timing approximately 37 minutes!) make Schnabel's performance sound note perfect. The sound was as best, is fair to poor...Seth.
