That's really a infamous move from Warner. BTW does anybody know what happened with Harnoncourt's recording of Smetana Ma Vlast? It was released in august 2001 and then...? Withdrawn maybe?

Like this is anything new? This might not happen THAT much, but it certainly isn't rare. For instance, that recent Naxos CD with Hovhaness's Symphony #22 (?) and the Cello Concerto, there were TWO seperate issues on Delos with the symphony. Or just look at all the reissues of Bernstein music DG has done in various ways....I have 30 or so minutes of Candide repeated because one set has the only recordings available (at all) of a couple pieces.

Not bad, compared to the Erato 21-minute CD

I seem to recall a pair of Telefunken (Teldec?) CDs, each one with just one Mozart symphony on it, and at full price...

Well it looks like it. Fortunately I found a copy somewhere even though it was not supposed to have been available then.
Btw, are you sure it was released in 2001 ? August sounds right, but I woudl have bet 2002.

You're right, it was august 2002! I've ordered it at CDMail, but, until now I just received a message announcing me a delay... I'm ready to see my order cancelled

Is this as smart as EMI issuing Hindemith's set of seven Kammermusik played by Abbado/Berlin Philharmonic, and carefully letting the first CD go out of print before issuing the second one?

I'd say the likelyhood of this happening is rather high. Which is a shame as this is definitively a very fine recording. What I am wondering about now is where the next recordings of H. will come from in the future. DG maybe ? I have also read somewhere that the VPO itself will start to sell its own CDs, and they have plans with H.

FYI, it is now at Berkshire. Which probably means that it is deleted.
