whats about pleyel?

Good morning I am a french piano maker,(excuse my english !!!) and it will be interesting for me to know what américan professional and pianist think about the pianos pleyel. Thank you for answers

It is rare to see a Pleyel.

When I was shopping for a piano earlier this year, I visited all of the piano dealers in an around Chicago, one of the largest cities in the United States. Of the hundreds of pianos that I saw, there was only one Pleyel, an upright.

I think that older people (I am 66) may know the name because Pleyel made the harpsichord that Wanda Landowska played, but I would guess that the name is relatively unknown among younger people.

As a professional pianist, I've never seen a Pleyel that was less than 100 years old, so I really couldn't tell you much about them. You will find that true of almost any American. I know of Pleyel from my reading of the history of pianos, but they have never been present in the US in noticeable numbers.

Thanks for the update. I had no idea that Pleyels were again being made. OTOH, I never heard of Ales either. (Sorry, this keyboard won't do a grave accent).

Alès is a city in the South of France, located in a 'departement' named Gard ( head city Nimes). They don't have such a good reputation, especially out of the borders of France. They are 'accused' of not making painos but only assemblying pieces of imported pianos. Inside France, they have, of course a better reputation

Pleyel is known as a good piano. But it is hard to find here in the United States.

Ahh, I have been to Nimes, but didn't realize there was any piano making in that part of the world. Thanks for the information.

I've played a pleyel before. Nice sweet tone, but I prefer the strong German one, that's why I didn't buy it. Pleyel is quite popular here in Singapore. According to the dealer, the P124 is his best selling model. He also brings in shulze pollman and sauter. The pleyel is his second class piano, sauter being the first and pollman being the third.

Selon leur site Web (http://www.pleyel.fr/) tous leurs pianos sont fabriqués (assemblés ?) à Alès. Peut être que certaines pièces des pianos sont made in Taiwan, comme les mécaniques Renner sont importées d'Allemagne.
