Is anyone familiar with this piano? I was looking to buy it from someone in another state. Before I send a tech up there, I thought I'd ask the experts!

Thanks for any info!

Hi Michelle,

I have played on exactly this kind of piano for many years as my practice piano. It's actually the best upright piano I've ever played on, and many piano tuners second this opinion. I would even rate this upright piano better than some of the grand piano's I've played on in the past (if they were in not so good condition). Around half a year ago my band played for a small audience, and if I had the choice I would've replaced the dying grand piano on the stage with the U1 (which is now at my parents house).

The touch of the piano is fast and direct, the sound has alot of high timbres in it. In my opinion, the piano is more suited to playing contemporary music than classical music.

Hope this helps in your decision,

Edwin

(ps. I know that alot of classical minded people do not like the touch and action of the Yamaha upright pianos, if you are in that category, visit a local store and consider the feel)

The U1 is probably the most widely sold piano in its class, is very well known, and usually considered to be a fine overall upright piano value.

However, the serial number you provided traces to a model P22, which is a 45' model, often regarded as a school or institutional model. (Also a good piano in its class, but not a U1).

You would serve yourself better by doing some more research. The Piano Book, by Larry Fine, would be a good start.
