Hi,
Can anyone tell me the year this piano was made? I'm considering buying it used from a private owner.
If you have any idea, what might it have sold for as a new instrument?
Many thanks for any assistance.

According to my Pierce, it was made around 1988-1989.

These are superb pianos IMHO. Here in the UK it will have cost in excess of £3K in the late 80s; nowadays a new example can be bought from £4.5K (absolute maximum discount applied, the list price I believe is around £5.5K). The first U3 I ever saw was in a Paris jazz club in the 70s, and it filled a large room with good sound without amplification.
I have a U1H (very similar, two or three inches shorter) which I bought new in 1978, and which today is as pleasing as it was then. Its black finish is genuinely indisinguishable from new.
What struck me when I was researching pianos, was that if you had a dozen new Yamahas lined up, each was exactly the same to play as the other. With the best will in the world, you could not have made the same claim about any of the other instruments I looked at (including Steinway and Bosendorfer).
