Anyone have any experience with a Korean company called Yedang which seems to have released a number of old Russian recordings in remastered sound? Is the sound at all worthwhile (understanding that the original source is pretty iffy in a lot of instances already)?

letters to be typed in

You may want to wait on the Yedangs in any event; a company called Pipeline is working on getting US distribution for this series. The Pipeline issues are to have English notes in the booklet, unlike the Yedang.

Thanks for the tip! Have you heard any of these? They claim to have tube-technology 24 bit, blah blah blah marketing-speak but I wonder if they are decent quality.

I'm not sure if there is a relationship between the Aulos and Yedang Melodiya operations (I have a faint memory that there is) but if there is, you can buy with confidence: the 5 Aulos Melodiya discs I have (which have extensive marketing-speak such as you describe) are far and away the best sounding analogue-sourced Melodiya CDs I have.

No, I haven't heard any of them yet, despite (important disclosure) having done some paid research for Pipeline regarding the project. A few of the Yedangs have shown up at Record Surplus

As somebody in the business of marketing-speak, I think that is an excellent decision! Perhaps it is because I am in the business of helping businesses to 'position' their product that I tend to view all of it as b.s. even when perhaps there is some truth in it...

Does anyone know what relationship, if any, there is between Yedang and Classicaltreasures (www.classicaltreasures.com) - they seem to be selling some of the same material? The 20 Classicaltreasures CDs are sold cheaply at Ebay:

Admitting my one-time business connection with Pipeline, having engaged in paid work for them to assist them in determining which Yedang items have not been available previously (and there is a LOT more stuff than just those twenty CDs!), I can say that Pipeline's plans (as I was told) included getting a real distributor and issuing selected items with English notes (which the Yedang releases apparently do NOT have).

According to some Japanese reviews, the remastering seems to be done carefully and truthfully reflects the original Melodya sound. Comparision shows that Yedang versions are slightly better than the ones on Revelation when the same sources are involved.

You can listen to the first 2 minutes of every track on all 90 CDs here.

i just received the 20cd yedang set from ebay.

on the Kogan Beethoven violin cto, recorded on 1980, the violin sound is big and clean, but without a bit of 'air' or presence. the orchestra accompaniment sometimes switched into distant mono and back to normal stereo. original tape fault ? remastering fault ?
