Presented for your amusement:

I found today that the recent Enoch zu Guttenberg / Orchester der KlangVerwaltung recording of the Eroica (no, those aren't pseudonyms) is missing two bars in the middle of the recapitulation (506-507).

Alas. Against stupidity the Gods themselves contend in vain.

I bet Schnabel and Cortot can top that.

Wrong, as in 2 bars are repeated and 2 bars are missing! As detailed in the 'Gramophone' review of August 1995, bars 212-213 are replaced by bars 214-215, so that we hear a spurious repetition of the latter two bars. Infuriatingly, I bought the CD two days before my copy of the magazine arrived; the information about this editing error (and a couple of other suspect spots were mentioned as well) would have warned me off the purchase.

Some time back I reported to this ng that I had obtained a corrected copy, but that was not true; somehow my ears had played tricks on me. I realized it had the same error after posting.

If anyone who knows the music note for note has obtained a truly corrected copy of this recording (Sony Classical SK64397), I sure would like to know where and when.

Fischer, too. In his WTK II, voices are frequently omitted or improvised, if you listen carefully...

And it's STILL better than Jeno Jando's lumpy, unfinished attempt.
